In this section you will see images from two different series I photographed over the years. The first is from the famous MARCH ON WASHINGTON in 1994 where more than 1 million gays and lesbians marched for their rights.

The second series is DYKES IN THEIR FAVORITE HATS...ACROSS CANADA. This series began as a personal project for Montreal pride in 2001 and to this date has blossomed into a project consisting of 128 women from across the country. The "hat" theme developed easily one day when I was thinking of how to shoot the women of Montreal to showcase them for the Pride exhibit. When I looked at my friends, I realized that there was one common tie and that was they all loved wearing hats! This sounds simple I know, but when we wear a hat we are aware of how we look, how we feel, it instills confidence and power. The image, together with the information given from each woman in their own handwriting, allows the viewer to have insight to who this person is, and what she is about. The idea was to show that there are many different types of lesbians, women from various backgrounds and aspirations. I wanted to prove that stereotypes can be wrong and that we are all cut from a different cloth. During the exhibit many women expressed interest in the project and wondered if I would be coming to their city in order for them to take part. Having dreamed of creating a book that would put lesbians on the map "so to speak" and with the help and encouragement of my friends, I decided to make my dream into reality and traveled across Canada to the West coast and compiled a fantastic start to creating the book.

I have selected 3 images from each province to show the viewer the concept behind the project. I hope you enjoy! Dykes in their favorite hats is an ongoing series, therefore, If you are interested in taking part please contact me.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the women who took part in this series and for believing in this project as much as I do.
